You might know the slogan of that one big chip-maker, “intel inside“.

I am adapting this slogan to express what I will write about below: “outside inside”.

My inside is all around me, the outside is within me. What I perceive around me is a reflection of what is happening inside myself. My environment is shaping my inner world, and my inner life is defining what I recognize outside.

If my counterpart is provoking me, it is the thing that resonates within me that is provoking me - I am provoking myself. I can just drop the provocation by letting go of that pressure within me. I.e. I do not have to force any change directly onto my counterpart. The opposite feelings work just as well. I quote the bible with “thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyselft”. If I feel love for my counterpart, it is the love within me that’s making it feel so good.

I can also take the “outside inside” much closer to home: within my own organism, there is the outside and inside of my mind. Through meditation, I am discovering the amazing correlation between even tiniest tensions in my body - a little tension in my right shoulder, a little activity in my jaw - and a slight unrest in my mind. The surprise is that I can then play with one side and through that influence the other. I.e. if I then drop my shoulder, the restless thought in my mind is gone.

“outside inside” is a fine gift to pursue happiness - as well as “inside outside”, if you will.
